HOW SHOULD I GO TO THE CONSULTATION?

Patients first time or who want or need subsequent studies, must come in fasting, to perform the necessary studies.

WHAT ARE THE PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY?

    4 weeks before surgery:
  • Stop smoking or vaping.
  • Stop all pregnancy preventive oral medication and hormonal medication for at least 3 or 4 weeks (hormonal medication increases blood clots risks).
  • Stop consuming alcohol.
  • Stop beverages with caffeine, energy drinks (at least 2 weeks before surgery).
  • Star walking or doing ellipticals for 30 min daily, patients with cardiovascular or joint diseases can inflate a balloon 5 or 3 times a day.

  • 1 week before surgery:
  • Stop all NSAIDs (aspirin, advil, aleve, ibuprofen, any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication; you may use tylenol (paracetamol) for headache or minor pains).
  • Regardless whether you have acid reflux/heartburn or not, start taking Omeprazole (1 pill 20 mg; every 12 hours, in order to decrease acid reflux, nausea, inflammation caused by the procedure).

  • 3 days before surgery:
  • Star full liquid diet, to cleanse your stomach pouch in bowel from any kinds of solids.
  • It’s very important to drink fluids during this period in order to be well hydrated for the day of surgery.

  • Surgery Day:
  • Stop drinking at midnight (the night before surgery).
  • You may take medication for high blood pressure, indicated by your physician early in the morning with a small glass of wáter.
  • You may brush your teeth normally.
  • Take a shower with soap a night before surgery or in the morning.
  • Take off all jewelry, contact lenses.
  • You may have acrylic nails but short (1/4 of an inch).
  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • During your flight, practice leg muscle contraction, get up and move every 45 minutes, move your feet (these are Clot preventive measures).

We recommend you arrive as early as possible, you will be given instructions of your tests and then you will be able to go eat something, so than when you’re up for appointment the test’s results will be ready.
